Chosen: An Adoption Story Book Cover

Chosen: An Adoption Story

When you are adopted you are different but different special. Being an adopted child myself, I wanted to create a caring and enjoyable way for a family to explain to adopted children just how they came to be and how their coming to be might be different from other children they know or meet. I can tell you that the little book that my parents read to me gave me the positive, optimistic view that I believe is my core foundation for all areas of my life.

This book also explains to the child that even though we may all look very different on the outside, there are things that each of us share that are the same.

A Note from the Author

My hope and belief is that by reading this book to your children, they will grow up knowing how special they are, and that they will have the foundation for their self esteem to aide them into their adult life.

The other hope is that while discovering how they came to be, they discover things about themselves. There are references to tummy, heart, and brain. The adult reading the book to them can point to these areas of the body, and as the child gets older, he or she can point to these areas themselves. There is also a large map of the world so children have a reference point to the country or state where they were born compared to where they live now. Hopefully your child’s curiosity will be peaked from terms like DNA and fingerprints, as these are also things that obviously further describe how uniquely special they are.

This is a wonderful book! Who is this book for? Everyone–adopted children, parents who have adopted, those who have given their children for adoption, the adult who was adopted, anyone who knows anyone who has been adopted! There is a story for children which makes them understand that they are not different from other children, but that they are also unique and Chosen. It also promotes questioning. The pictures are wonderful. There is also a real story for adults where the author has invited us to share in her own experience of growing up in a loving family as an adopted child who found her birth mother. She also offers resources the reader might find helpful. I will gladly share this book with colleagues and friends I know who have adopted children and with others.
